When children meet a sound, each responds in a different way. They may be surprised by a powerful note, listen closely to a gentle one, feel a low vibration through the body, or begin moving naturally to a joyful rhythm. Each response is a small discovery.
MARIMPA! is a participatory concert for children, centered on the marimba and encounters with many kinds of instruments and sounds. Classical music, samba, familiar songs, and original pieces reveal pitch, resonance, rhythm, and the pleasure of sounds coming together—with the vibration and atmosphere only live performance can offer.
The marimba and percussion invite anyone to join the music from the very first moment. No special technique is required: clapping, moving, or shaking a small instrument is enough to begin.
The goal is not to perform perfectly. We value noticing one’s own sound, listening to friends, and discovering the joy of many sounds becoming one piece of music.
This is more than watching or listening. Children touch sound, notice it, feel it, and create it with their own hands. Music changes from something they hear into something they discover and make together.
We hope the experience encourages children to listen to the sounds around them even after the concert, and that the music they meet that day remains as a warm memory. That is the time MARIMPA! hopes to create.
